James is an experienced CBT therapist, EMDR consultant, and mental health nurse with over a decade working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). James Callaghans 1st Children’s CBT Book:
“Leo Roars : A Brave Lion’s Guide to Beating Panic Attacks”
has been Endorsed By Dr Judith Beck Institute, USA (https://beckinstitute.org)

About Dr. Beck:

Dr. Beck  is the President of the Beck Institute, a globally recognised centre of excellence in CBT, which she co-founded with her father, Dr. Aaron T. Beck — the founder of CBT. Her endorsement reflects the book’s strong foundation in evidence-based CBT and its potential to support children, families, and educators in understanding and managing anxiety.

Dr Alamin kheir, Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist

“In Leo roars, beautifully illustrated story, written by James Callaghan, children learn what panic really is, how anxiety can take away a sense of bravery, and that it’s possible to find your strength again. Through relatable dialogue, friendly characters, and practical CBT-style exercises, Leo discovers how to challenge frightening thoughts, calm his mind, and slowly reclaim his roar. Perfect for children (and the adults who support them), Leo’s story offers clear, compassionate tools for understanding panic and building emotional resilience. Let this book be a companion,  a warm friend when big feelings feel too scary”.

Dr. Laura Magallon, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

“Leo Roars written by James Callaghan is a warm and accessible introduction to CBT ideas for young children. The story follows Leo, a little lion with big feelings, and gently shows how he learns to understand his thoughts and calm his roars. From a child psychiatrist’s perspective, the book does a very nice job keeping the concepts simple without losing their therapeutic value.
The illustrations are a real strength. They’re colourful, expressive, and make Leo’s emotional shifts easy for children to recognise. They also help open conversations about feelings in a way that feels safe and engaging. Overall, it’s a lovely, approachable book that parents and clinicians can use to support kids who are learning to manage strong emotions.”

Reviews

1. “I would highly recommend James as a psychotherapist. He helped us immensely to cope and manage with my daughter’s OCD and anxiety. We worked with James to understand the diagnosis, and our sessions provided us with the tools needed to be able to offer support to our daughter, and in turn overcome the problems which led to her OCD. James challenged her and encouraged her to overcome her fears, and with his help she was able to come out the other side. We are forever grateful for his help, and we both count James as the starting point in her recovery”.

2. “Having an independent, professional psychotherapist like James to speak to, in a non-judgmental way, helped me to look at why I react / behave the way I did. James helped me to recognise, understand and manage triggers. Am now able to cope with issues and see a way of living with things I can’t change and changing things I can change. I finally feel lighter, carefree and happy. Wish I had have met him years ago”

3. I have had just 2 sessions so far with James doing EMDR therapy and I have found it has made good change in me so far because I would have alot to get through because of my past but I have noticed a bit of change within me in the short space of time. It’s my first time doing this type of Therapy. James is very good at what he does and is so attentive and on the ball with the Therapy, very professional :) I look forward to having more sessions in the near future as I know they are going to
really help me
